Rigoletto revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, the hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and his beautiful daughter Gilda. Rigolettos only bright spot in life. Protecting her from the hardships of life, however, proves impossible for the otherwise skilled and cynical manipulator Rigoletto.

The opera is based on the play “Le roi s’amuse” by Victor Hugo. A work Verdi himself called the greatest drama of modern times.

The opera has the most beautiful music and contains one of the best known opera arias of all times, ‘La donna è mobile’.

An ever-relevant opera performance

Rigoletto takes place at the Duke of Mantua’s court. Rigoletto is the court jester who manipulates and sets traps in the effort to please the powerful and happy Duke.

Advanced cleaning games

However, as the Duke takes an interest in Rigoletto’s daughter, Gilda, the control slips off the fool. The advanced cleansing game he works to protect his daughter fails miserably.

Not an opera performance for delicate souls

Rigoletto is not for the faint-hearted. It is often referred to as one of the harshest operas of it´s time and the censors back then had serious problems with Rigoletto. It unequivocally exhibits the Duke as completely devoid of morality, and with few other things than sex and power on his mind.

In our day Rigoletto has often been portrayed  as a political spin doctor.
